Wednesday morning tea and cake

Hayley's activity of choice on a Wednesday morning is not to go to the park, or some organised kids' activity. It's not to have a friend round or to watch a DVD. It's to go to a coffee shop with me for a cup of tea and a piece of cake!

Usually we go to Costa, which never fills me with joy because the staff in our local one can be a little rude, it's cramped and dark and the prices are jaw dropping. And they'll never give me a second empty tea cup for Hayley. and I've heard lots of stories about them not being very breastfeeding friendly, though no-one has ever said a word to me (would they dare!!!). This morning though, I had to go to the bank first. There's a Cafe Nero next door to the bank so I thought we'd go there instead of walking back down the road to Costa. What a pleasure! The staff are so friendly and helpful. When I asked if I could have a second, empty teacup the girl behind the counter straight away said, "Oh, that's lovely, are you going to have a little tea party with her?" even though Hayley had been sitting on her own for a while by then. It's roomy and light and the prices, for the organic, fairtrade food, were very good. So goodbye Costa, hello Cafe Nero!

Hayley doesn't actually drink the tea. She makes mine for me (sadly they made the tea in my cup because she loves pouring it from the teapot usually), adding the milk and sugar, stirs it and then gets on with drinking her apple juice out of her teacup. And we chat. It's amazing what goes on in a 3 year old mind sometimes!

All in all, it's a very pleasant experience.
