When it's hard not to laugh

Hayley, in pretty typical behaviour, has been swinging wildly from super happy to screaming and crying. One episode of the latter resulted in her ripping a piece of a dressing up costume, which in turn resulted in hysterical sobbing for half an hour. We were patient and tolerant, but firm that she's responsible for her actions and that not everything can be written off as an accident until she sobbed, "People say accidents are learning experiences, but this one isn't!" Yes, we laughed. Yes, laughter was the least desirable response, but what would you have done?!
