Are slugs snails without a home?

Hayley has spent quite a lot of time in the garden this week. She hasn't been able to go anywhere and was going crazy inside, so she "helped" Anthony as much as possible inbetween nagging me for milk and crying. She's been fascinated with all the earthworms she's managed to dig up.

Then she found a little slug on the path yesterday morning... The questions, oh the questions!! Did this slug used to be a snail who's lost its shell? Where does it live if it doesn't have a shell? Is the slug naked?

She spent a good while after that explaining to the slug exactly where it should be going to make sure it stays safe and has a home here with us. Just as well slugs can't understand English or there'd have been a whole slug party here last night!
